Media Studies
Filmmaking is, by its very nature, a progressive endeavor. The aspiring filmmaker must learn, right from the start, how to work in a collaborative environment. Without the ability to communicate one's ideas and motivate others to work alongside you, one has no hope of completing a film, as one cannot work alone (there are simply too many tasks to do).
At LREI, we therefore see a strong connection between the original 20th-century progressive traditions of the school and the new 21st-century technologies of the digital age. Students in Media Arts learn the fundamentals of digital filmmaking in rigorous and hands-on classes in which each student writes and directs his or her own film(s), while working to support the film(s) of his or her classmates.
We use state-of-the-art 3-CCD digital cameras and edit on the latest version of Apple's Final Cut Pro software. Here on the website, you will see examples of the wide variety of work we do at LREI, from 9th-grade self-portraits to 11th-grade political documentaries to 12th-grade political commercials, music videos, and narrative fiction films.
Enjoy the selection. There are many more films where these came from! |
