LREI Students join Broadway Stars for Humanitarian Aid Benefit Concert
On Monday, November 20, 2006, Broadway luminaries performed a benefit concert to aid victims of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Tenth Grader Violeta Picayo and Twelfth Graders Lily Wiggins and Kamillah akLaff organized the benefit, all proceeds of which will go to the aid organization Oxfam International. The show was hosted by Sudanese born super model Alek Wek and featured the voices of Steven Cutts (Camp), Frenchie Davis (Dreamgirls, American Idol, Rent), Felicia Finley (The Wild Party, The Wedding Singer), Montego Glover (The Color Purple), Derick K. Grant (Dancer/Choreographer, Alvin Ailey Award Best Choreography Recipient for Imagine Tap), Benjamin Magnusson (Sweeney Todd), Tshidi Manye (Lion King), Deirdre O'Connell (Dramalogue Award, Los Angeles Critics Award), Kate Pazakis (Newsical), Saycon Sengbloh (Wicked, Aida), Eric Lujuan Summers (The Wedding Singer, Aida), and Roberta Wallach (Drama Desk Nominee, The Model Apartment).
Oxfam International is a multinational group of non-government organizations committed to economic equity and social justice. Currently, Oxfam International is providing humanitarian aid to the 2 million people forced from their homes by the ethnic cleansing in Sudan.
