Dear BBYA (Best Books for Young Adults) Book Club member,
By now, you should be well on your way to reading at least (35) 2007 books for next January's American Library Association Conference.
Please keep reading over the summer. There will be limited access to the LREI school libraries, so we encourage you to take 2-3 books with you from Jennifer or Karyn, and find another BBYA buddy to swap with, in addition to getting books from public libraries or bookstores.
You may purchase 2007 titles from bookstores, but we encourage you to borrow as many books as you are able from the three NYC public library systems: NYPL, Brooklyn, and Queens. With your public library card, you can go to the branch nearest you and request titles be sent to you, or even reserve titles online. To do this, go to:
To find the list of books that have already been nominated by the BBYA committee, please go to :
These are the titles we would like you focus on, as they are books that the librarians on the BBYA committee will definitely be discussing. But don't worry if the 2007 books you have read or plan to read are not yet on this list. They may be nominated later in the fall by BBYA committee members. Some of the nominated books won't officially be published until later in the year, so don't worry if there are some books you just can't find. You can check titles through www.amazon.com to see if the books have been published yet.
Remember to write down your reviews in your blue review notebook. Please write a review for every book you read!
If you or your parents have any questions, you can email Jennifer at jhubert@lrei.org
