LREI Track and Field Team is Victorious!

LREI
ISAL League Track Championship: Girls' League Championship and the Overall Team Championship.
After months of working and waiting, starting back when practice ended in the dark, the LREI Track and Field team finished a long day at the ISAL League Track Championships as the victors of the Girls' League Championship and the Overall Team Championship, which combines the scores of the boys' and girls' teams. This win was the Track team's 6th Championship since 2012 (13 for Boys' and Girls' running program if you include Cross Country).

The team faced stiff competition, especially from two growing teams that are heavy on sprinters. Despite being sandwiched between two strong teams, LREI's runners sacrificed their individual ambitions in favor of team success and used a combination of experienced superstars and exuberant youngsters to win the team championship. The official results have not yet been posted, but notable performances include:
  • Girls: Won 7 out of 11 events, 22 All-League performances
  • Boys: Won 4 events, 15 All-League performances
  • 3200: Girls went 1-2 and took 4 out of the top 5 places. Boys won and took 4 out of the top 5 places
  • 1600: Girls went 1-2-3. Boys won.
  • 800: Girls went 1-2-3. Boys won.
  • 400: Girls won and took 4 out of the top 5 places.
  • 4x800: Girls won. Boys won.
  • 3 8th graders combined for 8 All-League performances on the Girls' side.
Highlights include:
  • The Boys' and Girls' teams swept the victories in distance races (3200, 1500/1600, 800, 4x800).
    • Ian Daley won the 3200, 1600, 800, and was the leadoff leg in the 4x800. To win the 800 he kicked hard with 75 meters to go and passed 4 other runners—15 minutes after winning the 3200. His point total of 40 points made him the high scorer of the meet and League MVP.
    • The Boys' team of Ian Daley, Jared Sage, Andrew Bialosky, and Cole Usdan combined to win the 4x800.
    • Otilia Olmedo, a senior, won the 3200, 1500, and was the anchor leg of the winning 4x800. Having run her last league meet, Otilia will end her ISAL career with four Team Championships.
    • 8th grader Anna Faulkner won the 800, placed second in the 1500, and ran on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 teams.
  • In the sprints and field events, LREI's young runners showed their impressive potential.
    • Rachel Morrow, a sophomore, won the 400 and Long Jump and placed second in the 100 and 200.
    • Freshman Amari Fogle was All-League in the 400, 4x100, and 4x400.
    • Sophomore Myles Dunlop was All-League in the long jump, triple jump, 4x100, and 4x400.
While I have only highlighted a very select few above, every single member of the team earned the title of All-League in at least one event. This is a big first for LREI Track and Field. That everyone put in the work throughout the season to be All-League is a great testament to the environment on the team and the talent and dedication of its members. The fact that many of them ran multiple events—without a second thought about their own time or place ambitions—in order to contribute to the team total is a great testament to your work as parents to instill your children with great values. It has been a pleasure to coach, teach, and advise your children this season and year.

Thank you for all of your support,
Coaches Peter Heinz and Matt Milton
