The major entry points for Lower School are the Fours and Kindergarten. Families should begin the Admissions process one year before they would like their child to attend the school. We encourage all families to submit applications as early as possible in the admissions season to facilitate scheduling interviews and student assessment.

  • Application

    To begin the application process for academic year 2021-2022:
    • Complete an online application in Ravenna by the deadline of December 1, 2020 (available after Labor Day). There is a non-refundable application fee of $75. An application fee reduction is available upon request. Please contact the Admissions Office for the fee reduction code.
    • After submission, your application will be processed in 5 business days.

  • Student & Parent Interviews

    Once we have processed your application(s):
    • After your application has been processed (5 business days) the Admissions Office will call you to schedule appointments for parent interviews and student assessments. These will be conducted via Zoom. (Alternative means of communication for your interviews can be arranged.)
    • Student applicants to our Fours and Kindergarten assessments will be virtual.
    • Students applying to First through Fourth Grades, should spaces be available, will have a one-on-one virtual assessment.
    • All parents will have a personal interview with a member of the Admissions staff.
    Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive a Goggle Calendar invitation via e-mail. Please confirm your attendance by clicking "Yes".

    Should you need to reschedule your appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Virtual Visits

    Virtual visits are available for all families interested in LREI's Lower School. These will be conducted via Zoom. Reservations are required. To schedule a session, please use the link below. An application is not required to participate.

    We strongly recommend that all interested families attend a virtual visit to learn more about our dynamic program and progressive approach.

    Please note that Lower School information sessions are for adults only.

  • Testing

    LREI does not require the ECAA test, administered by the Educational Records Bureau, for Lower School applicants.
  • Official Transcript and Teacher Recommendations

    Candidate Evaluation Forms are required for all applicants to LREI. Candidate evaluations are confidential and must be sent directly from the applicant’s current teacher/school to LREI. An official school transcript is required for all applicants to First through Fourth Grade and for any applicant currently attending Kindergarten at another school. Please follow the instructions below.

    For applicants to the Fours and Kindergarten:
    • Please submit the ISAAGNY Early Childhood Information Sheet, available in Ravenna, (3s/4s or K/1st) to the current teacher/school to complete after November 15, 2020.
    • The ISAAGNY Early Childhood Information Sheet must be sent directly from the applicant’s current teacher/school to LREI by January 15, 2021.
    For applicants to First Grade:
    • Please submit the ISAAGNY Early Childhood Information Sheet and the Transcript Request Form, both available in Ravenna, to the current school after November 15, 2020.
    • The ISAAGNY Early Childhood Information Sheet and official transcript must be sent from the applicant’s current school directly to LREI by January 15, 2021.
    For applicants to Second through Fourth Grade:
    • Please delegate the Lower School Candidate Evaluation Form in Ravenna to the applicant's current teacher(s) and the Transcript Request Form to the current school after November 15, 2020.
    • The Lower School Candidate Evaluation Form and official transcript must be sent from the applicant’s current school directly to LREI by January 15, 2021.
    The Transcript Request Form and Candidate Evaluation Forms are included in the online application.

  • Financial Aid

    We offer financial aid to students in our Fours through Twelfth Grade. Financial aid decisions are made independently of admissions decisions, and awards are based solely on financial need. All financial information submitted is kept confidential. Applicants interested in applying for financial aid should check the appropriate box on the application.   • Decisions & Notifications

    Admissions decisions are based on the written application, interview, student visit and school report. Decision notifications will be posted on Ravenna according to the guidelines set by the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY). Notifications will be sent via email from ls-admissions@lrei.org. Please set your email account to accept emails from this address as well as admissions@lrei.org.

Sibling and Alumni/ae Admissions

LREI offers the option of Early Notification to siblings of current LREI students and to the children and grandchildren of LREI alumni for our Fours program only. If you are eligible to participate in this program:

Birthday Requirement

Applicants to the Fours and Kindergarten must be four years old and five years old, respectively, by September 1 of the year they begin our program.

Note to Kindergarten Applicants

Should we reach our capacity for Kindergarten interview appointments before the application deadline, additional Kindergarten applications will be placed in a wait pool on “active hold”. Any applicant family placed in the wait pool will be notified. If interview appointments become available, we will contact families in accordance with our school’s mission and enrollment goals.
