Launch of the 6th Annual Alumni Giving Challenge

Get to know current high school students and learn about what is happening at LREI today!

Walking Tour of Greenwich Village (Open to all alumni)
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. / Meet at the Washington Square Arch at 2:00 p.m.
Join your fellow classmates for a tour of Greenwich Village to spots of special significance during the 1960s-1970s, and see how they have changed in the years since you were a student at LREI. This two-hour tour is led by Andrew Silverstein, founder of Streetwise New York, specializing in in-depth customized tours of New York neighborhoods. The tour includes a slice of Joe’s pizza (which you may remember as Golden Pizza) to sustain you and bring back memories. It will begin at Washington Square Arch at 2:00 p.m. and conclude at LREI (272 Sixth Ave.) at 4:00 p.m.

A Conversation with New York Nico

Come together for an in-person conversation with Nick Heller '07, including clips from some of his latest work! Nick is the 2022 Recipient of the Michael Patrick Achievement Award.

Re-enactment of Randolph Smith's Testimony on “Subversive Influence in the Educational Process”
(Open to all alumni and past families)

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. / Performing Arts Center at 40 Charlton Street / Zoom
Performed by Ann Carroll and Michel de Konkoly Thege. The testimony on “Subversive Influence in the Educational Process” took place at the hearings before the Committee on the Judiciary of the United States Senate in September 1952. The performance will be followed by discussion on the political climate in the 1950s. 

Little and Red: Coming of Age in Greenwich Village (1938-1956)
(Open to all alumni and past families)

Distinguished Alumnus Jonathan Ned Katz ‘56 recalls his parents, teachers, and life at the Little Red School House in a repressive era. Katz is the author of five pioneering books on U.S. lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual history, two books on African American history, and Coming of Age in Greenwich Village: A Memoir with Paintings. He also has a long career as a visual artist and was honored by a one-man show at New York’s Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art.

Other Activities on Saturday:
  • The LREI Centennial Mobile Museum will be on display in the lobby of the High School from 12:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Record a story for StoryLab! Alumni will have the opportunity to record their memories from LREI for StoryLab, our digital archive project, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the High School Library. You may sign up for a time slot when you check-in.
  • Take a picture in our photo booth with your friends! The photo booth will be open from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. on the first floor of the High School.

COVID-19 Protocols

For the comfort of all our guests, we are requiring attendees to have the following:

• Two doses of COVID-19 vaccinations (or one J&J)   
• A negative antigen taken on June 3rd

Proof of vaccination will be required upon entry.
We are not asking for test results to be reported, but out of respect to other guests, we ask that you not attend should you test positive or exhibit symptoms. Masks are welcome but optional. COVID-19 protocols are subject to change based on local situation. Let's have fun and keep each other healthy!
