Looking towards the spring with Debra Jeffreys-Glass

LREI
I would like to welcome you back from our spring (but wintery) break. I hope that your time away was restorative and filled with good company, good food, and lots of laughter.
As we complete our first week back, the building is humming with the sounds of excitement and learning. Despite the chill and cold winds outside, it is already spring. With that comes the rush that many teachers and parents describe as a whirlwind of weeks that lead up to the end of the school year. But – we’re not there yet.

So much is in store for your children in the coming months. An important part of our work together is slowing down and savoring this period of time. In the month of April, we remember and strengthen our community connections, take stock of the growth in every child since the fall and winter, and look on with anticipation at what we will accomplish in the coming months.

To bring us back into our classrooms after two weeks away, Lower School teachers took the time with students to remember and reaffirm community agreements. This is time well-spent: mindfully reviewing shared norms paves the way for the continued collaborative work that is a hallmark of much of our curricular endeavors. The result of this “check-in” means that classmates are much more in-tune with each other, leading the way to the successful creation of baby-birds-nests in Kindergarten, a full-scale musical in fourth grade, and a study of construction sites, along with many other culminating projects that spring from the interests, passions, and prior explorations of our lower school children.

I look forward to seeing you in and around the school as these studies bear fruit in the coming weeks.

Warmly,

Debra Jeffreys-Glass
Interim Lower School Principal
