LREI's Eighth Grade Moving-Up Ceremony

LREI
The middle school years are steeped in the spirit of inquiry and discovery that are at the core of LREI’s progressive mission and our Four Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Courage, Citizenship.
On Tuesday afternoon, June 13th, Middle School Principal Ana Chaney ’94 addressed the eighth grade students and families and noted that she had spent much of the year, her 17th at LREI and first as middle school principal, reflecting on courage.

In leading with this theme, Ana read a poem by Emily Dickenson, “We never know how high we are / We never know how high we are / Till we are called to rise / And then, if we are true to plan / Our statures touch the skies / The Heroism we recite / Would be a daily thing / Did not ourselves the Cubits warp / For fear to be a King.

An LREI alumna, Chaney knows firsthand the impact that older students can have on younger ones and how that provides an opportunity to be role models. “Give your younger schoolmates some of the high fives that they’ve enjoyed while you were here with us. We are all inspired by the way you rise to each occasion.”

She concluded, “you won’t know what you can do, how great you can be, until you are called to rise,” a call to both celebrate and challenge to “make heroism your daily thing.”

LREI is proud to have over 80% of the eighth grade class move up to our high school next fall.
They will be joined by 35 students coming from schools around the city.
