Susan Glass begins her 26th year teaching at the NYU Summer Kodaly Institute

Summer Journal Notes from MS/HS Music Teacher, Susan Glass

Following the academic year, I began teaching at the NYU Summer Kodaly Institute. This summer marks my 26th year teaching in this nationally recognized program, which is predominantly for teachers that want to become certified in the Kodaly approach to music education. I am proud of the work, and I get to meet and teach so many new students! This year, one of my students was Ted Stafford, a parent of two of my LREI students! Great meeting of my two worlds.

After the final concert, I had barely 24 hours to pack and leave for Kecskemet, Hungary, where I am now a student again!  Participating in the second week of an international Kodaly seminar, I am taking daily classes from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, with several of my NYU students beside me! These are wonderful experiences to learn together from master Hungarian teachers. I find myself challenging my musical skills and stretching my hearing in new ways. Great stuff! I'm looking forward to sharing new material with my LREI students in the fall.

More to come!
