With the Winter Concert right around the corner (Monday evening), I have been thinking about the benefits of creating opportunities for students to be "on the spot." In the arts, but also in the service of learning math, humanities, athletics, and all subjects, performance provides motivation, audience, and an opportunity for reflection. I talked to students and faculty about this today and below is a compiliation of what they identified as the greatest benefits to being asked to perform.
