A Winter Assembly Message

Faith Hunter
Dear Lower School families,

In our closing Lower School Winter Assembly, our 4th Grade emcees shared the following message:

December 21 is called the winter solstice. This is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. Many religious traditions during this time of year incorporate light. Think about many of the holidays, including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas, and how there are candles in all of them acting as symbols of light in the world during this time of darkness. In particular, this year, when there is so much more sadness and there are so many more struggles, it’s important to remember that within all of us there is a light — a choice to bring kindness, empathy, and love into every moment.

Our fourth graders then challenged each Lower School student to think of the many ways each of them could spread the light they have within them out into their world. We heard statements like:

  • “I will spread my light by being a good big brother.”
  • “I will spread my light by helping those in need.”
  • “I will spread my light by being a good friend.”
  • “I will spread my light by trying my very best at all that I do.”

As always, your children have been shining lights in my life; they are consistently at the center of the happiest moments of my day. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the privilege of educating and caring for your children. This honor is not something I take lightly, and it is most certainly a treasured gift.

I leave you with this link of our Lower School Gathering. I was touched by the palpable joy your children express when they are with one another; even over Zoom, they sing, dance, and share openly. I hope you will find time to curl up with your child and watch the video together.

I wish you all a healthy and happy holiday season!

Warm Regards,
Faith Hunter
