Dust off your sleeping bag! It’s time for the 25th Annual LREI CAMPING TRIP!

Friday June 1st – Sunday June 3rd, 2018

A great, fun LREI family tradition! Camp out Friday and/or Saturday night. We supply the food. You supply the tent and sleeping bags. Swimming, Hiking, Games, Fishing, Bird-watching, S’mores! Suggested contribution is $30 per adult, $20 per child. Please see additional information about contributions on next page.

We’ll be accepting cash or checks from 8-9 am in front of the main Sixth Ave entrance on many days in May and June leading up to the trip.

New this year: Please read! Due to road construction at the Delaware Water Gap, we will be camping at the Clarence Fahnestock State Park.  The camping trip is a long-standing, parent-organized tradition that takes place this year on the weekend of June 1 - June 3.  Typically 80 to 110 campers, kids and adults, attend.

How does it work? 
Some campers arrive on Friday afternoon or evening while many leave the city early on Saturday to arrive in time for lunch.  Saturday dinner, followed by S’mores, is certainly a highlight with a great meal shared around a big campfire.  On Saturday and Sunday everyone is free to participate in some planned events (capture the flag, touch football), swim, fish, play Frisbee or soccer or softball, hike, nap, or whatever.

What can I do to help? 
In the spirit of volunteerism that pervades the school, all campers are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the trip, including communal meal preparation, cooking and camp clean up, as well as other group activities such as gathering wood and water, organizing ball games, campground activities, and swimming at the sandy beach! – with adult supervision! 

What do I bring? 
Generally all the food you will eat is provided, with the exception of snacks and Friday meals.  You will need folding camp chairs to sit around the fire.  Water is not available at the campsite but we will have jugs of drinking water.  You will need to provide your own tent, tarp, sleeping bag, air mattress, flashlight and/or lantern.  It’s helpful to bring your own cup, so that we don’t have to use too many paper ones.  We hope for gorgeous sunny weather, but have to plan for rain showers.  At the very least the campground is wet from dew each morning, so pack accordingly.  Other items to consider: a hat, spare batteries, rain gear, bathing suit, water shoes, towels, sun block, first-aid kit, and insect repellent.  The site is in a large field so bring a Frisbee, soccer ball, a bat and glove, etc.  If anyone is musically inclined, bring a guitar or harmonica, and lead us in some rousing Little Red favorites around the campfire!

What does it cost?
We want to encourage anyone who wants to attend to come, therefore there is no required cost, so please join us!  Donations are accepted to help cover the costs and the suggested donation is $20.00 per child, $30.00 per adult, but donate what you like.  Donations can be made by cash or check when you sign up or arrive.

How do I get there?
  The directions are attached.  If you need transportation, please let us know as we are working on providing transportation to ensure that everyone who needs a ride, can get one!  If you have room in your car for other campers who do not have transportation please let us know.

What if I don’t have equipment?
 We encourage you to bring your own gear, but if you don’t have any, we can provide rental options or, in limited circumstances, equipment to borrow. Our goal is to give everyone, every reason to come and enjoy the outdoors with our LREI community.

Sounds like fun; how do I sign up?
  Sign up at the LREI Camping Trip table outside the lower school entrance in May and June.
