Humanities

In every grade, study of language arts and social studies is woven together by a central theme or themes. Known jointly as “humanities” classes, they are generally taught by a single humanities teacher, but the two grade level humanities teachers often co-teach when possible. Frequently, other classes – art and science, for example – are integrated into the humanities study.

Bio
Suzanne is a 7th grade humanites teacher and the 7th and 8th grade Dean. She joined LREI in 1997. Prior to her current position, Suzanne was a middle school learning specialist, early childhood curriculum coordinator, assistant principal of the lower school, and a lower school teacher. Suzanne combines her enthusiasm for progressive education with her love of theater by playing Elisabeth Irwin each year in the Founder’s Day play.

Amanda teaches sixth grade humanities. She is enthusiastic about history, geography, and world religions. She lives in Brooklyn with her daughters, her husband, her dog and her tortoise.

Bio
Momii has taught humanities and advised eighth graders since joining LREI in 2008. Prior to teaching at LREI, Momii was a NYC Teaching Fellow and a teaching fellow at The Dalton School. She holds a BA from UC Berkeley, an ED.M from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a MST from Pace University. Momii is also a proud LREI parent.

Bio
Elizabeth joined the LREI Faculty in 2009. She loves her curriculum, which covers early Colonial America, and collaborating with the other Core teacher. She enjoys reading and keeping up with current YA Literature titles suggested by her students. She is also the middle school girls' basketball coach; this season her girls ranked first in the league, and made it to the championship game. (Go Knights!) In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys taking art classes (her most current being printmaking), and baking in her very small kitchen.

Bio
Caroline joined the LREI faculty in 2021. She teaches 5th Grade Humanities. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Bard College and an M.A. in Education from Antioch University. In addition to teaching, she is a SEED co-facilitator, an advisor, and was an assistant coach for the high school girls’ soccer team from 2021-2022.
