Susan Glass began her career as a music educator at LREI’s Lower School and stayed for 16 years, She taught grades Pre-K to 8 and founded three choruses. During a long hiatus, she earned her graduate degree, taught at New York University and several other K-8 institutions before returning to LREI in 2008. She now teaches middle and high school vocal music classes, chorus, and is music director of the mainstage musicals. Susan holds a B.A. in Music from Binghamton University, an M.M. in Music Education from Manhattan School of Music, and an Ed.D in Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a certified specialist in the Kodaly Approach, and is a senior member of the faculty at the NYU Kodaly Summer Institute. She has been a national clinician/conductor at workshops and conferences throughout her career. In addition to her teaching role at LREI, she founded and directs LREI's resident Adult Chorus, aptly named the Glass Menagerie.
Joan joined the faculty at LREI in 2016. She teaches 9th grade Survey of the Arts, Acting, Comedy and other elective courses centered around devising, theater and social justice, directing and playwriting. Joan earned a B.A. in Theater at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a M.F.A. in Acting from the School of the Arts at Columbia University, where she studied with Anne Bogart, Robert Woodruff, Eduardo Machado, Niky and Ulla Wolcz, Andrei Serban and Kristin Linklater. Beyond her teaching work, Joan is a high school advisor and directs the annual Fall High School Play and the Spring Festival of Plays and Performing Arts. She has also enjoyed serving on the admissions committee, senior project committee and as an honors project mentor.
Nick joined the faculty at LREI in 2018 as an instrumental music teacher. He teaches Jazz to Hip Hop, Rock & Pop and Protest Music, in addition to X-block clubs focused on songwriting, recording and production. Nick earned a B.M. in Music Education and Jazz Performance at Temple University, and has since been working as a freelance musician in a variety of sideman and co-leader collaborations in both the greater NYC area and abroad. In addition to teaching, he is a high school advisor and enjoys pursuing his hobbies of cooking and golfing.
