Rachel Morrow added three more goals to her team-leading ten, including scoring in the first three minutes, to lead the charge against ISAL opponent York Prep.  LREI are on a three game win streak as they look towards another tough league game on Wednesday.
Right out of the blocks LREI dominated the contest against York Prep, which was the first action for the Knights in ISAL league play for the 2016 season.  The LREI midfield trio of Freshman Olivia Roederer, Senior Julia Herzfeld and Sophomore Isabelle Mercado were able to move the ball forward quickly and stop many attacks before they could even get to the backline.  Three minutes in LREI had tallied through the pace and power of Junior forward Rachel Morrow, who pushed herself into double digits in scoring already for the season.  Morrow would

The few attacks that did manage to come through were either cut off aggressively by Freshman center back Jane Olsen, who played a very high line, or cut out smartly by Senior center back Minnie Hutchins.  Junior left back Sophia Cook also played the full 80 minutes and played very intelligently.  Cook was able to on several occasions play a line breaking ball straight up to the forwards after stealing it off of an opponent.

The second goal was scored by Senior forward Lucy Tamarkin, who took a ball passed across from the left hand side and shot it high into the right corner of the net.  Before the half was over Morrow would add two more, Mercado would add her own blast from the top of the box, and Freshman forward Michelle Mardones would curl a beautiful shot into the far post from just inside the wide left side of the box.

At one point in the second half York Prep would add a tally through tenacity and speed, beating the LREI backline with a well placed shot from inside the box.  But the dominant narrative of the day was the Knight’s ability to attack the York goal almost at will.  Defensively LREI have now only given up five goals in five games, which is on pace with some of the better defensive years they’ve had in recent memory.  Offensively they had been clicking very well even before this game, which pushes their tally to 16 goals in 5 games.  The Knights are 3-1-1 heading into a very important game on Wednesday against league leading opponent FASNY, who are 3-0 in the ISAL.  This game will happen on Randall’s Island.
