The Lady Knights soccer team got their first league points of the season off of Churchill by winning 1-0 in their third game of the season.  Playing their second league contest, LREI were still looking for their first points after loosing 0-1 to BWL.  They had been unfortunate to not get at least a share of the points in that game, and had a chance here to open their account.  Churchill played a tenacious game, with several very skilled players who were able to hold the ball and create chances.  Despite this, freshman goalkeeper Sara Caplan was never really troubled due to some tenacious play of her own early in the game and the tough play of sophomore defender Hazel Hutchins, playing sweeper in place of missing senior Grace Gold.  Hutchins play in the back was vital to the LREI defense throughout the game.  She has put in three fantastic games for the Knights this season, but it was never needed more so than in this game where she was needed in the middle.  The LREI goal came as a result of full team pressure on the Churchill net.  After winning the ball in the corner, sophomore Ally Klemer, playing striker, played a ball across to senior Jacey Mossack, who then turned off of her defender to put the ball in the net.  It was Mossack’s second strike of the season, and her first in the league.  On the outside freshman Maya Pacheco-Berger continued to contribute well to giving the team width and maintaining possession through a high work rate and several intelligent passes.  Also giving good minutes through fresh legs and a high work rate late in the game were junior forward Josey Stuart, who showed tremendous speed, and sophomore midfielder Esme Edwards.  In the end Caplan recorded the clean sheet for the Knights.

The Knights are scheduled to play again on Monday, the 24th, verses York Prep.  This is another league game, and begins a tough week in which LREI must play both York and Brooklyn Friends.  The York Prep game will be held on Roosevelt Island at 4pm.
