What to bring to preseason
J.Demster
To each session of practice in the preseason and beyond you should bring several items. Each of these is important to your health and/or your ability to participate fully in practice. Each item should come to every practice session even if it is not used in every practice session.
a) Soccer cleats - cleats should be worn at each game and practice session. While some girls own and prefer flats or turf shoes, the latter of which are fine when we play or practice at Pier 40, we often play on grass or in wet conditions. Turf shoes and/or flats are not safe or conducive for an athlete participating at this level of competition. Cleats should be designed specifically for soccer, fit well, and be comfortable and in good condition. Please to not show up to the first day in either brand new cleats that have never been worn, or cleats that are in poor condition from age or use. If you have questions about this I would be happy to advise you.
b) Water bottle - often we play in places that are not located near water sources. Plan on having your own at all times. Also, do not bring or buy sports drinks for practice. Water is preferred during our workouts over anything else. Bottles of at least 32 oz are recommended.
c) Socks and shin guards - you will be required to wear shin guards that cover the majority of your shin in order to compete, and will be expected to wear them during competitive sessions at practice. You may be asked to sit out if you are not prepared for these kinds of workouts. Socks should also be comfortable and cover the shinguard.
d) Running shoes - often times we will be doing longer runs that may include leaving the turf area. Running shoes that are comfortable and in good condition, and that are designed for running (i.e. - no Converse, street shoe, or leisure shoes) will be necessary for these sessions.
Please wear appropriate clothing to the sport, i.e. - comfortable soccer or athletic shorts and a tshirt or training top. Long pants, jeans, inappropriate footwear, or other clothes not conducive to you participating in potentially strenuous athletic activity may be cause for you to sit out the session.
