    PRESEASON IS COMING!!

We are now just over a week away from the beginning of the fall 2014 preseason!  While I know none of us are wishing the summer away so quickly, I know I'm excited to get back onto the field with all of you.  We have a very exciting team this year, with plenty of experience in our large group of Seniors and Juniors (many of whom are entering at least their third season), and some talented and dedicated younger players coming up in the Freshmen and Sophomore classes.  We have worked hard over the last three seasons to continually improve, and we are well placed to build upon that this year.

In this email I will give information regarding the preseason, which will begin at 7:30 am SHARP on August 25th at Pier 40.  I will also attach all of the paperwork necessary for each student-athlete to participate (4 documents), which will be available on the girl's varsity soccer section of lrei.org as well.

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND RESPOND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS

    _____________________________________________________

    1) Things to bring

To each session of practice in the preseason and beyond you should bring several items.  Each of these is important to your health and/or your ability to participate fully in practice.  Each item should come to every practice session even if it is not used in every practice session.

         a) Soccer cleats - cleats should be worn at each game and practice session.  While some girls own and prefer flats or turf shoes, the latter of which are fine when we play or practice at Pier 40, we often play on grass or in wet conditions.  Turf shoes and/or flats are not safe or conducive for an athlete participating at this level of competition.  Cleats should be designed specifically for soccer, fit well, and be comfortable and in good condition.  Please to not show up to the first day in either brand new cleats that have never been worn, or cleats that are in poor condition from age or use.  If you have questions about this I would be happy to advise you.

         b) Water bottle - often we play in places that are not located near water sources.  Plan on having your own at all times.  Also, do not bring or buy sports drinks for practice.  Water is preferred during our workouts over anything else.  Bottles of at least 32 oz are recommended.

         c) Socks and shin guards - you will be required to wear shin guards that cover the majority of your shin in order to compete, and will be expected to wear them during competitive sessions at practice.  You may be asked to sit out if you are not prepared for these kinds of workouts.  Socks should also be comfortable and cover the shinguard.

         d) Running shoes - often times we will be doing longer runs that may include leaving the turf area.  Running shoes that are comfortable and in good condition, and that are designed for running (i.e. - no Converse, street shoe, or leisure shoes) will be necessary for these sessions.

Please wear appropriate clothing to the sport, i.e. - comfortable soccer or athletic shorts and a tshirt or training top.  Long pants, jeans, inappropriate footwear, or other clothes not conducive to you participating in potentially strenuous athletic activity may be cause for you to sit out the session.

    2) Schedule

The preseason schedule is set for the moment, and this information can also be found on lrei.org.  This schedule may be subject to change if it becomes necessary, but appropriate warning will be given if that becomes the case.

         Monday, August 25th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field*
         Tuesday, August 26th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Wednesday, August 27th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Thursday, August 28th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Friday, August 29th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field

Monday, September 1st: Labor Day, No Practice
         Tuesday, September 2nd: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Wednesday, September 3rd: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Thursday, September 4th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field
         Friday, September 5th: 7:30 am - 9:30 am @ Pier 40 upstairs field

    * On the first day of practice I will meet girls downstairs at the entrance to Pier 40 and we will walk up together at 7:30.  Please arrive before that to get ready to play.  Every day afterwards we should meet upstairs at that time unless I indicate otherwise.

Beginning Monday, September 8th we will practice after school every day from 3:30-5:15 pm.  While most practices will be held at Pier 40, there may be some travel involved if space at the pier is unavailable.  Those arrangements will be communicated in a timely manner as becomes necessary.

    3) Paperwork

Before any girl will be allowed to compete they will need to complete the attached paperwork, even if it has been filled out in prior seasons.  Please read over it and fill it out carefully, and return it to Jeremiah at your earliest convenience.  There are four forms: the Contract for Participation, the Interval History for Sports Participation, the 2014 Attendance & Conduct Agreement, and the optional Consent to Travel form.  All will need to be turned in during the preseason at some point.

Can't wait to see all of you in a little more than a week!
