Frank Portella started wrestling in middle school in his hometown on Long Island. He was inducted into his high school's Hall of Fame, went on to wrestle at college and has coached athletes as young as 2 years old to high school seniors in states across the country. He was the head wrestling coach of a high school in New York City from 2006-2013. During that time he coached 13 City Champions. Frank continued grappling and transitioned to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where he won the New York State title and the Pan American tournament. His wrestlers have gone on to compete successfully in college and many also transitioned to BJJ - one even winning the World Championship.
He brings a wealth of experience from 20+ years of teaching middle & high school. His experience, enthusiasm, and techniques from classroom teaching make him uniquely able to teach the mechanics of the sport in a way that is accessible, demanding and fun. He is the father of three and they all wrestle except for his 5 month old daughter, she’s too little…for now.
