Head and Associate Camp Counselors - Summers at LREI Camp Program

Camp Description:
This day camp is the summer program of LREI, a historic Progressive Education school located in the West Village. Our priority is to offer a safe, creative, engaging place for children to grow in the summertime. We foster a non-competitive, welcoming environment for all children who attend. Children are encouraged to make new friends and to participate in fun activities that interest them and provide opportunities to learn new skills.
 
Head Counselor Requirements in advance of the camp season:
Planning Retreat (TBA): June 1st – June 3rd (depart NYC in afternoon, return NYC evening)
Orientation (NYC): June 18th -22nd

Season Dates:
-Attend all staff Orientation June 18th-22nd, 10am-6pm or until rooms are set up.
-Camp Season:  June 25th - August 3rd, 8:30am-4:30pm.
-End-of-Season Celebration: August 4th, evening.

Head Counselor Job Description
Responsibilities of Head Camp Counselors include:
-Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children in an age-specific camp group (between 4 and 13 years old).
-Plan and lead daily activities for the camp group, including art, group games, cooking, and projects inspired by the interests of the campers.
-Take leadership for the camp group on camp-wide field trips around the city.
-Supervise the Associate and Junior counselors in the age-group team.
-Communicate with parents about daily events and their children.
-Work collaboratively with other counselors.
-Communicate with administrators on a daily basis; accept feedback and process camp-based challenges and successes.
-Work to uphold the program’s progressive education and diversity initiatives in every camp activity.
Salary: $4,200-$4,650 for the camp season
 
Head Counselor Job Qualifications
Minimum college degree with background in education or the arts, at least three years experience as lead teacher in an educational or camp program; ability to generate and lead group activities for children between the ages of 4 and 13; ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and communicate effectively. A background in a creative discipline such as art, dance, theater or music is preferred. All Head Counselors are required to get current CPR and First Aid certification.
 
 
Associate Counselor Job Description
Responsibilities of Associate Camp Counselors include:
-Work with the Head Counselor to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children in an age-specific camp group (between 4 and 13 years old).
-Be an active support during all activities for the camp group, including art, group games, cooking, and projects inspired by the interests of the campers.
-Supervise children in the camp group on camp-wide field trips around the city.
-Communicate regularly with the Head Counselor.
-Meet weekly with a Camp Administrator to receive feedback and discuss topic specific issues.
-Work collaboratively with other counselors.
Salary $1,800-2,700 for the camp season, dependant on experience.

-Camp Season:  June 25th-August 3rd , 8:30am-4:30pm.
-End-of-Season Celebration: August 4th, evening
