Welcome to the Lower School at LREI

LREI is a tight-knit and diverse community where children and families are known well. Our school is a place where curiosity and enthusiasm are encouraged and supported. Guided by expert, dedicated teachers, students learn to explore the world around them through social studies, reading, writing, mathematics, science and the arts. Over the 14-year experience, LREI students come to know themselves as learners who develop confidence in their abilities to collaborate, think critically and act with integrity as citizens within their communities.

From the beginning, students are engaged as protagonists in their learning experiences. Teachers shape the learning experiences that provide students with an opportunity to make connections between themselves and the world in which they live. Throughout the day you may witness students collaborating on the design of a robot, discussing the meaning of a poem, or measuring how far 100 feet truly is. (It's longer than you might imagine!). Classes frequently go on trips, both near and far. From the Home Visits in the Fours, to the week long farm visits that children take in the Third and Fourth Grade, students are provided opportunities to contextualize their skills in order to solve real problems.

LREI's youngest students begin to develop relationships with the community through the school buddy program, school-wide assemblies and curricular events that welcome all members of the community. In the First Grade, the students, during their community study, learn the song, “What can one little person do?” In the Lower School, we believe that a little person can make a tremendous impact, and our young community members do so everyday. Come and experience it for yourself. We hope to see you in the neighborhood!
